tesseract aims to realise a sustainable design that harmoniously integrates with the surrounding urban fabric, utilising environmentally friendly source materials. Additionally, we are committed to providing services that support the homeless and low-income earners in Melbourne, offering them affordable housing solutions. In our approach, we strive to forge a connection with the surrounding environment and context, ensuring that users have an experience that seamlessly aligns with and contributes positively to the environment.

The development of our hybrid system ‘Tesseract’ aimed to hybridise social, residential and commercial programs to
coalesce all participants into QVM’s urban fabric, to create a high-density hybrid model which provides affordable,
sustainable and community driven future housing and services, targeting the re-integration of our homeless population
forming our intended inclusive society.

our group successfully realised our vision and ambitions through the implementation of a hybrid system. Throughout the design process, we consistently adhered to a structured development approach, emphasising connectivity and integration of functions to enhance user interaction. Guided by the principles of sustainability, affordability, and connectivity, our analysis-driven design resulted in a robust and permeable system. Creating a seamless link between Flagstaff Gardens and Melbourne CBD, our system caters to the future, promoting sustainability by prioritizing public transport and bike access over vehicular traffic. Material choices were carefully selected based on environmental sustainability and contextual relevance. Additionally, we preserved and repurposed existing sheds on the Southern side, contributing to the site's heritage and providing functional spaces for the community.
